Poem by Bethan: Dear Grandma

Created by Julie 2 years ago
Dear grandma
I guess first things first
I must apologise for being the worst
And throwing that water balloon that burst
On your Sunday best
Patience put to the test

Dear grandma
You had such style and grace
Barely a wrinkle on your face
And never a hair out of place
We are all very keen
To have your genes

Dear grandma
Your desserts I loved to try
Summer pudding pippin pie
Another spoonful, a very full sigh
All tasting so good
The undisputed queen of pud.

Dear grandma
You and grandpa were the heart of our clan
The middle, the centre where it all began
And without you I think we can
Feel a little at sea
Sad and slightly empty.

But dear grandma
You made us a strong family
We’ll keep meeting up for picnics and bubbly
And though we’ll miss your company
We’ll always raise a glass for you
I know it’s what you’d want us to do

Dear grandma
I’m so sorry you had to leave
You were such a fixture it’s hard to believe
I called my daughter Elsie Eve
For you
And she’s rather lovely too.
